Industrial coatings are characterized by being protective, not aesthetic. These materials are applied to provide resistance from corrosion on structures such as tanks, pipelines, and bridges. Some examples of industrial coating polymers are epoxy, polyurea, and polyurethane coatings. The coating provides a barrier between metal or concrete substrate and a corrosive environment like water or soil. Some coatings are used for their physical properties, such as in the case of the military using polyurea for blast remediation.
