Marine coatings are waterproof, protective finishes that are applied to surfaces exposed to or immersed in salt and fresh water. They are applied to different kinds of watercraft, including floating marine structures such as offshore oil rigs, freighters, tankers, fishing boats, and ferries. Elastomeric coatings are used on boat hulls to create tight seals. Polyurea coatings are another example, protecting metal and wooden boats from corrosion, and rotting, respectively. Coatings contractors utilize these methods to provide repair or maintenance to marine structures.
